Mel Hawkins graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry in 1973 and returned for his formal training in Dental Anesthesiology in 1975-1976.
He is the Founding Director of the IV Continuing Education Program at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry and also the Founding Director of the same Modular Curriculum in Conscious (or Moderate) IV Sedation Course at the University of Alberta, Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry. Since 1993, Dr. Hawkins has worked annually with Dr. Dan Becker in Dayton, Ohio in presenting Modules 1 and 2. He is Professor of Pharmacology and Department Chair at the Aurora Dental College in Ontario.
